Very very pointless, but...
I need to know.
It's been driving me crazy. I read the lyrics once in a while and listen to the song probably 20 times a day and I still have no fucking clue. What the hell do the lyrics to Fall to Pieces mean?
I need to know.
And if you're gonna say that they don't actually make any sense at all because Avril is not exatly the brightest or most literate person around but that it doesn't even have to make sense for everyone to love it just because she's Avril and that's the way things work so I should just stop caring about it so much and maybe move onto a new song because it sounds like I'm geting a bit *too* hung up on trivial stuff like this that is taking up time that could be much more valubly spent sleeping, then don't. I already knew that. :D

It's bothering you too now eh? You see, the thing is, that once you start to become hooked to a song on a musical level, the next step is to feel the need to completely dissect the lyrics to it. And that need has obviously started to consume you inside out now, I can tell.
The only line I had trouble with was this one:

Cause I'm in love with youThe thing I didn't understand was what the heck would you not want to talk about with someone that you're madly in love with? If you can share bodily fluids with this person, you should be able to talk about anything with them. And why would being in love with this person make you not want to talk about "it" with him/her?
That's when substituting "it" with "breaking up" (aka "falling to pieces") makes a lot of sense. She doesn't want to talk about breaking up with this person because she's still in love with him. That's my interpretation anyway.

Think like a girl...We don't give the guy the cold shoulder because we're idiots and we think keeping quiet will make everything all right. Sometimes the words just don't come, and if the truth will hurt it's self preservation just not to talk about it. ZMP is right, this song is about breaking up, or on the verge of breaking up, as she's preluded to in the first verse about making it through.
I take the words 'fall to pieces' as her losing it, basically cracking and turning to begging, which is NOT very dignified and that's why she doesn't want to do that.
